Are you fasting correctly?

Hello,
I've always been curious to know if people understand what fasting means when told to do so by the Dr or MA. Fasting is a crucial part of the blood collecting process and can make the biggest difference in the world when analyzing your blood.
Did you know that drinking as much water as you can even while requested to fast is still 100% acceptable and PREFFERED by medical professionals like myself. If you're a coffee person, don't worry you can still have your cup of Joe, but straight black. No creamer, no sugar. Also green tea.
If you're concerned about taking medication first thing in the morning, please do. You will NOT break your fast and the more water you drink with the meds, the better.
Misinformation or a lack of any information is usually the leading cause of patients getting rejected at a Laboratory when asked by the technician if they are fasting while obviously chewing gum even if it's "sugar free" or having a small breakfast or snack. Just brush your teeth.
Please feel free to ask any questions regarding fasting or anything else relative to Blood draws, Laboratory, or Medical related in general. I'll be more than happy to interact and inform as needed.
You're Welcome
